This wire necklace, strung with 39 hematite stars to represent the longitude of the South Jersey Cape, is incredibly sentimental to me and to the brand. The barrier island/shore towns of The Wildwoods have held special significance to my family for generations. Starting with my great grandparents who were small business owners, each generation since then has maintained a connection to this magical place.
Dotted up and down the Jersey cape are bird sanctuaries and nesting grounds used by many migratory avian species. Research into the internal navigation systems of these birds suggests the possibility that over their lives, a deposit of hematite, a common iron oxide, develops inside their brains, which due to the magnetic properties of hematite, assist the birds in their seasonally driven journeys up and down the globe.
Hematite crystals are also said to have numerous supernatural properties. They are known for their ability to harvest, and expel negative energy from the body of a wearer, as well as provide, or enhance a kind of feminine courage. They will heighten self confidence, provide a balanced grounding energy, and enable logical thought processes to blossom in the mind of the wearer.
I think this is a material novella employing so many intersections of romance and connection to our world. The cherry on top is a single grey freshwater pearl strung almost at the end of the sequence of beads, sitting high upon the neck, which represents the moon.
May you wear this very special necklace in good health and with our love!
