Growing up, when we would go to the Jersey shore, we would often see a kind of yellow spiral on the beach that I heard my family refer to as a string of coins. I would later discover that it was actually the egg casing produced by a Knobbed Whelk. This necklace is like a little nursery, with hundreds of "coins", or beads, tended after by two little baby oysters, each with a pink, or slate colored freshwater pearl. Talk about romance.
